Wood Cont.

Posted by Poppa under: Projects.

The cornice boards are coming along nicely.  Dinner is done but we still haven’t eaten yet.  It’s one of those things that the longer it sits the more flavor you get outta it.  Here’s Momma hard at work attaching the batting to the boards getting them ready to be covered with fabric.  Looks like someones been watching their fair share of “Trading Spaces”.

Dinner and Wood

Posted by Poppa under: Projects.

Should be a pretty good evening on hand for us tonight.  Just finishing up dinner (see photo below).  Having jambalya tonight with smoked sausage, bacon, red, yellow, and orange peppers.  Yum.  After that we’re gunna try to get the cornice boards built for the boys room.  We’ve made a lot of progress so far and it should only be another day or two and the whole room will be complete!  I hope they like it (and yes we will post some “after” photos when we’re done).

What’s for dinner?

Too much power

Posted by Poppa under: Site News.

Having a few minor issues with our hosting company right now over the site.  They’re claiming that yesterday my CPU utilization went too high and they moved the site from the server it was on, to a “spare” server.  The thing is, the only thing that was done yesterday was that we imported about 500 new photos into the gallery (the Grand Canyon trip).  And when that happens, the software analyzes each photo, resizes them, makes thumbnails of each one, and rotates them if the software thinks that it should be rotated.  So it can take some power to run through 500 images, but it’s very breif.  I explained the situation to them and they said ok fine, we checked and your utilization is lower now so we’ll move you back to your normal server.   I’ve dealt with the same thing from this company before, for a different website I was running.  Frustrating it is.  And if they keep giving me crap about it I might just go find a different host.  BTW - when they moved the site to the “spare” server some of the comments that people posted in the gallery got wiped out for some reason.  They might come back when they move us back to the normal server, or they might not.  I dunno.  Either way, the site will stay up, it just might end up on a different host.

A “few” more photos

Posted by Poppa under: Site News.

Uploaded quite a “few” more photos tonight into the Photo gallery.  I think there’s only about two or three hundred in there so far, and we have about 4,000 total that need to be uploaded.  So it will take a while to get them all up there.

Also, many of them are really really big right now (when you click on them to view full size).  Eventually, once I get them all uploaded I’m gunna download them all, resize them down to about 1280 width, and reupload them.  That should help speed the site up a bit and cut down drastically on the amount of space we’re currently using (some photos are currently larger than 3mb each).

A few days ago I enabled the comments in the gallery and the ability to rate the photos is also up and running.  So feel free to let us know what you think of what is out there so far.  Another great way to view them all is to sort them by most viewed, so see what other people so far have viewed the most.

Within the next cpl of days the site should get a good indexing by Google so maybe the traffic will increase a little bit.  We haven’t really told too many people about the site thus far, just our closest and dearest, but maybe someday someone will actually care about what we have to say and share with the world.  Who knows.  Either way, we’re gunna leave our mark on the world, even if only a few people see it - those people will be the most important ones.

Summer Dance

Posted by Momma under: Kids.

Abigail Abigail started her summer dance classes.  She is extremely excited because she is doing a Competitive Solo #.  It is to Jack Johnson’s “Upside Down”, which is from the curious George soundtrack.  Along with her solo she is taking her tap, jazz, and ballet.  The owner of the studio made sure that we knew that in the fall she would be asked to move up to the next age group and they are wanted her and 4 other girl to develop a small group.  Which is really a good thing.  Since there hasn’t been a small group # yet for the academy with her age group.  She is very proud.  We will be posting more pictures and many of them will be of her dance.  However not many of her actually dancing since you are not allowed to take flash photography.  I am sure she would all love to have you up to support her some time.  As our website is built we will have a calendar of our schedules filled with our planned trips and kids activities.  Go Abigail!

Up and running…

Posted by admin under: Site News.

Well, it looks like in just about one day I’ve totally redone this site.  The front end you’re viewing now is powered by the latest version of WordPress.  There is another section of the site that I still have to build some links into, that is running Coppermine (photo gallery).  There aren’t many photos uploaded at this point, but will be adding a bunch more as time permits (already spent about 10 hours working on things today).
